In My Life – The Beatles

There are places I’ll remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life, I’ve loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more

Though I know I’ll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I’ll often stop and think about them
In my life, I love you more
In my life– I love you more

When dealing with the loss of a loved one, sometimes, it helps to remember the happy memories you have with the person instead on focusing on the loss itself.  While it’s never easy to deal with the void he or she has left behind, you can take comfort at the fact that once in your life, this person has become a big part of your life and has left you with the happiest memories and probably wisdom you can share with your kids and loved ones someday.

The popular Beatles’ song entitled “In My Life” encapsulates this philosophy very well.  Written by John Lennon, the song commemorates his youth in Liverpool.  It was his answer to journalist Kenneth Allsop’s comment about his songs lacking insight to his childhood.

Unlike the first draft, “In My Life” was never specific, thus allowing him to express his feelings about his childhood better.

And for the same reason, this makes “In My Life” one of the best funeral songs for anyone looking for something less sentimental to honor the memories of a deceased loved one during the funeral services.  Think of it as the his or her parting message to you and everyone else whose lives he or she has become a part of.
