Thank you by Johnny Reid
If I only had, two words left to say to you.
With my last breath I’d come face the truth to you.
You’ve never left my side, even when I fell behind.
Thank you for the life you’ve given me.
Thank you for sharing all your love and your dreams.
Thank you for every tear of happiness I’ve cried.
Thank you for laying down your life to be crucified.
When I close my eyes, I say a prayer to talk to you.
And when I wake, I embrace the one who pulls me through.
Who pulls me through the storm when I can’t go on.
Thank you for the life you’ve given me.
Thank you for sharin’ all your love and your peace.
Thank you, for every tear of happiness I’ve cried.
Thank you for layin’ down your life to be crucified.
You’ve never let me down.
Its like you don’t know how.
Thank you for the life you’ve given me.
Thank you, for sharin’ all your love and your dreams.
Thank you.
John Kirkland Reid is a country music artist who has charted several hit singles in Canada. The single Thank You as a part of his fourth album Kicking Stones which was released in 2007. This song is a great funeral song as it talks about being thankful for the life that God has given us, it can also be interpreted as being grateful for the life that you have shared with a departed loved one. It shows that when the heart is too full for words, the sincerest expression of love is often a simple offering of thanks. Johnny Reid completely captures this idea in his tender love song “Thank You.” His warm, soulful voice and the beautiful melody put into words what so many of us long to express.
This can be sung during the funeral service as the narrative voice in this song is reminiscing about the life, they shared with someone who was a pillar in their lives. We all have people in our lives who we will forever be indebted to. But all too often, we find it hard to tell them what’s in our hearts. When our gratitude is beyond the capacity of language, sometimes a song can express what’s in our heart.
